Courage

I created this hand-lettered quote as a birthday gift for my partner - it is one of her favourite quotes, so I decided to give it some lettering love!

I started out using a pencil to produce a rough concept in my sketchbook, then marked out some custom guidelines on an A3 sheet of paper to create a more refined composition. The guidelines also ensured that both the cursive and serif-styled lettering were equally sized, evenly spaced, and all slanted in the same direction.

I then traced over the pencil outline with a 0.5mm Uni Pin fineliner and removed the pencil guidelines to clean it up. Once I applied the ink, I decided to thicken the strokes of the cursive lettering to make it stand out further from the serif lettering. This was the final stage of the process.
